Health in Our Homes
People spend millions of dollars annually on improving their health. They join clubs. They buy books. They hire trainers. They purchase expensive equipment. They buy high-quality food. They purchase training videos. They do everything conceivable, but leave out one crucial aspect of a healthy lifestyle: improving their home.
Health in the home is one of the most overlooked, but potentially one of the most important elements of a healthy lifestyle. There are three main areas to consider.
Healthy Air
The air we breathe should be rich in oxygen and free from dust and allergens. Consider having an air quality test performed in your home to make sure that you're breathing fresh and pure air. Then, replace that air filter and vacuum the carpet. You'll notice the difference.
Safe Passages
Make sure that hallways, bedrooms, and walking areas are free from potentially hazardous obstructions. A loose power cord, a snag in the carpet, or even a stray toy can cause dangerous trips and fatal falls.
Sanitation
Wash your clothes, wash your dishes, and sweep your floors-and do it often. In the hurry of life, it is easy to let dirty dishes pile up in the sink. But disease-carrying insects find these dirty dishes very inviting. Before you know it, you have a sink full of fruit flies and maggots. Forgetting to take out the trash is easy to do, but getting rid of the crawly pests (not to mention the stench) is an altogether unpleasant task. Washing your clothes rids the home of bacterial hot houses and places for mold to grow. Wash, clean, and sanitize everything that you touch. You'll be healthier for it.
Watch the Pets
Although pets are wonderful things, sometimes they attract carriers that aren't so friendly to humans. Make sure that your pets keep clean, get shots, and are free of fleas. If you have an outdoor pet, make sure it stays outdoors.
